Aries · Scorpio

Two people who do not know how to do anything by halves.

Aries and Scorpio are both ruled by Mars, and it shows: neither of them is casual about anything. The difference is direction. Aries goes at a thing head-on and is finished with it by evening. Scorpio goes underneath it and is still there a year later. That is the whole relationship, in both its best and its worst form.

What pulls

Recognition, mostly. Aries meets someone who is not frightened of intensity and stops having to apologise for their own. Scorpio meets someone with no hidden compartments at all, which is novel to the point of being disarming. Aries says the thing at the moment of thinking it; Scorpio, who has spent a lifetime reading what people are not saying, finds there is nothing to decode, and does not entirely know what to do with the free time.

Where it grinds

On pace. Aries has already forgiven, forgotten and moved on to the next thing, and genuinely cannot understand why the argument from Tuesday is still in the room. Scorpio has not moved on and did not agree to. Aries reads that as holding a grudge. Scorpio reads Aries’s speed as never having taken it seriously in the first place. Both readings are wrong, and both are completely understandable.

The long version

This pairing rarely dies of boredom. It dies, when it dies, of attrition: two people who both refuse to be the one who yields, in a contest neither of them ever formally agreed to enter. When it works, it works because one of them learns to name the thing out loud before it has calcified. It is worth saying plainly that this is learnable, and that the Sun sign is the least of it. The angle between two people’s Mars, and where their Moons fall, will tell you far more than these two words ever can.
